St. Pius X School places a high value on extra-curricular activities. Students are encouraged to be involved in activities such as
Students in grades K-5 are invited to participate in extra-curricular Chess Club. Chess Club meets at 8:10 a.m. on Tuesdays. Any child who understands the basic concepts of the game is invited to join. Students with closely matched skill levels are paired together. Lego League is open to 4th and 5th graders, and helps young people discover the fun of science and technology while building self confidence, knowledge and life skills.
Lego League team meets after school during the fall and competes locally. In prior years, St. Pius X School teams have advanced to the regional competition.

- Teaches children to research, experiment and overcome obstacles

All 4th and 5th grade students are given the opportunity to participate in the Invent Iowa program. Students working alone or with a partner to brainstorm, research, prototype, and present their invention at a school-wide ‘invention convention’. Students may advance to the regional convention, as well as the state-wide Invent Iowa Invention Convention.
St. Pius X School has a long history of representation at both the regional and state wide conventions.

Musical Instrument/Piano Lessons
Private music lessons are available at St. Pius X School and are offered before school, after school, and over the summer. Lessons can be on an instrument a student has already started playing or an instrument they are interested in learning. Piano lessons are also offered to students of all levels, from beginning to advanced.
